For your safety, supplied by Jacksta:
Jacksta Lanterns are safe but like anything that has a naked flame there are safety procedures that should be followed. Unpack lanterns in a safe environment, away from any sources of ignition, take care not to tear the delicate paper.
Keep ample water or fire extinguisher close to hand, no smoking near the lanterns, do not wear any loose clothing that could catch fire.
Always have at least one more adult with you to assist in any emergency.
Children should stand well back, as with any firework they should not be involved in the launch what so ever.
No persons under the influence of alcohol or drugs should be involved in the handling of Jacksta lanterns.
Check wind speed and ensure that the wind is not stronger than 5 mph if in doubt don’t launch.
Check wind direction to ensure that the flight path is clear so lanterns will not drift into anything like trees, over head cables, pylons, buildings etc etc , if in doubt don't launch.
Do not attempt to alter the construction of your lantern in anyway.
Do not release within five miles of an airport.
Do not release next to roads, dry standing crops, woodlands etc etc
Never tether lanterns as this often prevents the unit from remaining upright as the wind blows.
Launching your Jacksta Lantern:
Remove the Lantern from the packaging and un-fold. Bend the looped wires up facing vertically into the inside of the lantern. Place the flat fuel cell in the centre of the base with the wire passing through the fuel, then add the white cube-like cell on top of the flat one (see diagram) bend over the looped wire to secure in place.
Hold the top centre of the lantern and fully open out ensuring the sides are not creased, light two opposing corners of the flat fuel cell. Never allow the flames to come into contact with the paper of the lantern.
After about 45 seconds the lantern will feel lighter as it fills with warm air and will gradually rise. At this point you will need to hold the lantern by the base ring until it is ready for take-off. Do not attempt to throw it up into the air, just guide and let it go by itself.
Make a wish.........
Jacksta lanterns are constructed from fully bio-degradable materials and unlike most fireworks the flame is out before it lands, the paper is fire retardent.
